21st GENOCIDE COMMEMORATION - KWIBUKA 21

It was on 30th may 2015 Saturday morning when Sainte Bernadette commemorated together with the nation in kwibuka 21 of the 1994 genocide against Tutsi.
The event started with a talk show conducted by Mr. Murenzi Joel on behalf of the Ministry of Youth and ICT - Rwanda. Murenzi was one of our best students in 2005 and we were blessed to have him amidst us.

Remembering our beloved ones: The headteacher lighting the “candle of hope”.

He discussed the dangers and effects of genocide to our country, and also explained that the main purpose of these Kwibuka ceremonies is to make sure that genocide is prevented before it happens.” The youth must ensure its NEVER AGAIN RWANDA’, he stressed.
The audience asked questions to which Mr. Murenzi responded satisfactorily.

The Headteacher led the staff and some student representatives and laid flowers on the genocide memorial ground near the Sister’s Monastery.

May their souls Rest In Peace: The Headteacher lays a flower in respect of the departed souls.

This was followed by a Holly Mass in the school’s main hall. We prayed for the souls of those who died in the 1994 genocide against Tutsi, especially the teachers and students of GS Ste Bernadette.

After the Mass, the Headteacher presented a bank cheque of 100,000Rwf to an orphan who lost both of her parents who were serving here at Saint Bernadette as teachers.

N.B: All teachers and students who fell victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi died from their respective home areas away from school as the genocide took place during school holidays.
