GSSB EXCELS AT KIGALI DEBATE
On 21st March 2015, we went for a national debating competition at IFAK in Kigali and registered a superb performance. You could see that we were at par with the best members of the Kigali Debate League yet we were appearing at it for the first time.
Kigali Debate League is a debating tournament for the best debating schools in the country and we were one of the few schools from outside Kigali City.
Teta Christine, the president of iDebate Rwanda -the organisers of the event says she was impressed by the fact that we did very well yet it was our first time.
It takes very sharp debating skills to do very well and our performance was remarkable by all standards. One of our teams won two debates in the preliminary round and narrowly missed out on the final.
Songa Isaro Kevine, our student was among the 20 best debaters of the tournament. It was our first time to participate on this arena, and we narrowly missed the trophy. We are eagerly waiting for the next tournament to claim our position at the top.
Our debating club this year debated with fire. This is the only way I can describe what always takes place on every Monday evening at GSSB. Our main hall is always filled to capacity and you can see that the culture of debating is one of the things that make us shine.
We debate serious issues that affect this planet; we don’t ask if “fire is better than fire” or “village life is better than urban life”.
