Backgound of the school

Groupe Scolaire Sainte Bernadette Save is a government aided secondary school under the Catholic Church. It was formed in 1938 by “Soeurs Missionaire de Notre Dame d’ Afrique” and currently is under the leadership of Benebikira congregation since 1976.The school has undergone through transitions that’s changing names starting:

- 1938-1949: Ecole Normale

- 1950-1961 : Ecole des Monitrices

- 1961- 1964 : Ecole Moyenne Pedagogiques

- 1965-1966 : Collège Inférieur

- 1967- 1975 : Ecole Normale inférieur

- 1976-1982 : Groupe Scolaire Save Filles

- 1993- 2013:Groupe Scolaire Sainte Bernadette Save

This school was established to promote the Education of a girl child, thus being the first Girl’s school built in the Republic of Rwanda to improve and raise the standards of living of a girl child.
Groupe Scolaire Sainte Bernadette is located in Gisagara District in Save Sector in the southern Province Republic of Rwanda.

The school later opened its gates wide and started Education for boys since 1982 and currently the school is mixed with boys and girls. The school started with 23 students in 1938 and 16 graduated with Diplomas in 1941. Meanwhile the number of students is currently 751 where girls are 574 and boys being 177 meaning that three quarters of the school’s population of students are girls.

It offers general subjects at Ordinary Level programmed by Rwanda Education Board and also offers combinations of History Economics and Geography (HEG) and English Kinyarwanda and Kiswahili( EKK) in arts while in Sciences it’s Mathematics Chemistry and Biology(MCB), Physics Chemistry and Mathematics(PCM), Mathematics Economics and Geography(MEG) at Advanced Level.

Groupe Scolaire Sainte Bernadette has contributed much to the Education sector for the past years for example in the last five years all students passed with 100% at all Levels.Foristance many Students became the best students in 2012 in the whole country which rank the school among top ten schools in the country and many students have been admitted at National University of Rwanda and other higher learning institutions in 2013 academic year thus clear indication that the school is excelling academically.
